Oddubon’s: A Slightly Unconventional Study of Birds
Welcome to Oddubon’s - John Shirreff’s ongoing exploration of the avian world, rendered in pen, ink, and marker.
Some birds soar. | Some strut. | Some appear to be quietly judging the entire human race.
Part homage, part observation, part gentle mischief, these works celebrate birds not as distant natural specimens but as characters—full of posture, personality, and the occasional suspicious glare.
Where naturalist John James Audubon once catalogued birds with scientific devotion, Shirreff approaches them with equal parts admiration and curiosity… and perhaps a raised eyebrow.
Each drawing begins with careful line work—pen tracing form and feather—before colour and character emerge through marker. The result is a collection where elegance meets eccentricity, and every bird seems to have a story it might tell… if only it trusted us enough.
Or perhaps it already has.
